Bremen Elementary/Middle School

- New Windows
Bremen Elementary-Middle School is part of a single K–12 facility serving all students in the district, with portions of the building dating back to 1938. These older areas of the elementary and middle school required attention due to aging exterior components and water infiltration issues. New windows and insulated metal wall panels were introduced to resolve long-standing moisture concerns while giving the building a fresh, updated appearance that complements the original construction.
The existing wall construction presented several challenges. Corroded and failing lintels, the absence of proper masonry flashing and weeps, and cracks in the older masonry allowed water to penetrate the building envelope. Differences in construction methods between the 1938 and 1950 sections of the school further complicated potential masonry repair solutions, making them both difficult and costly. Completing such disruptive exterior work while school was in session added another layer of complexity.
After thorough discussions with the school board and administration, the team selected a new insulated metal wall panel system as the most effective solution. This approach allowed construction to continue through winter months and while students remained in the building. The metal panels provided a durable exterior upgrade that modernized the building’s appearance, while leaving the existing masonry in place helped keep the project cost-effective and minimally disruptive.
