As part of a broader effort that included improvements at Goshen High School, Goshen Junior High School received a series of additions and renovations centered on replacing the district’s two undersized and aging natatoriums. The district sought to consolidate swimming programs into a single, modern facility, leading to the creation of a new community natatorium and associated support spaces. The former natatorium was transformed into new music and fitness areas, while cafeteria renovations and kitchen additions were completed to support the school’s large and growing student population. The project also included a new secure entrance and updates to existing music spaces.
Throughout planning, Barton Coe Vilamaa worked closely with the design-build committee to evaluate potential locations for the new natatorium, ultimately selecting the Junior High School as the most effective site. The team balanced the district’s program needs with budget goals, leveraging the fast-paced design-build process to keep the project moving efficiently. Collaboration with contractors and design consultants ensured that key decisions were made quickly and construction advanced without delay.
The resulting Goshen Aquatic Center serves as a vibrant hub for both the school and the wider community. The competition pool features 11 lanes, complemented by a warmer instructional pool with five lanes. Bleacher seating accommodates 422 spectators, with additional off-deck viewing space. The former natatorium was successfully repurposed into expanded music facilities, supporting the school’s strong performing arts program.
