Southwest Allen County Schools partnered with BCV to design and provide construction administration for significant upgrades to Homestead High School’s varsity soccer field. The project focused on elevating the facility to a premier competition level, featuring the installation of a new synthetic turf field. The scope also included a new scoreboard, public address system, and essential technology and support infrastructure. To maintain campus-wide architectural consistency, a new ticket booth was designed to match the existing booths at other campus entrances, creating a unified look for the district’s athletic facilities.

The project faced a unique procurement challenge when the ticketing and electrical portions were released for public bidding. Because these components were relatively small in scale and were introduced during a peak in the local construction market, the project initially received no bids from area contractors. This required a strategic pivot to ensure the upgrades remained on schedule and within the district’s goals.

In response, the design team and district administrators developed a creative procurement solution by collaborating with the Construction Manager already overseeing the major adjacent construction at Homestead High School. The ticketing and electrical work was successfully absorbed into the CMc’s larger existing scope, ensuring the specialized work was completed by a team already mobilized on-site. Meanwhile, the synthetic turf installation proceeded through a cooperative purchasing contract as originally planned. This collaborative approach allowed the district to navigate a difficult bidding environment and successfully deliver a high-quality varsity soccer venue.
