The renovation of Leo Jr-Sr High School focused on modernizing the school’s outdated media center and revitalizing the primary corridors throughout the building. While the school had received smaller additions over the last two decades, the core of the facility had not seen a major renovation since the 1980s. This project aimed to update the interior finishes in a way that bridged the gap between the building’s various construction eras, creating a unified and cohesive aesthetic across the entire campus.

Refreshing these legacy spaces required a design strategy that integrated modern materials with the existing architectural framework. The goal was to pull disparate elements from the original structure and subsequent additions into a singular, contemporary look that felt intentional and seamless. Central to this effort was the complete transformation of the media center, which was reimagined to move away from traditional, dense book stacks in favor of a more versatile environment.

The resulting media center is a modern hub tailored to current methods of instruction and self-directed learning. The new layout provides dedicated small-group spaces for collaborative projects, offering students a flexible environment that supports both quiet study and group interaction. Throughout the building, the corridors were updated with new design elements in the ceiling and energy-efficient LED lighting, making these high-traffic areas more welcoming, vibrant, and visually engaging for students and staff.
