McKenney-Harrison Elementary underwent a transformative renovation and expansion that balanced the preservation of its historic character with the need for modern, flexible learning environments.

Working within the constraints of the historic wing and a landlocked site, we approached the design with creativity and strategy. By acquiring neighboring parcels, the district gained space for expansion without sacrificing the building’s approachable two-story scale. Inside, we transformed outdated spaces into light-filled, flexible classrooms and integrated modern systems that support today’s learning needs.

Careful planning and phasing were essential. Construction was carried out in three major phases so the school could remain open and fully operational throughout the project. The end result is a refreshed, future-ready elementary school that respects its historic roots while providing a welcoming, modern environment for students and staff.
