The renovation of New Palestine High School revitalized the district’s flagship campus through the addition of 150,000 square feet of new construction and the modernization of 40,000 square feet of existing space. This extensive project replaced aging structures with updated classroom wings and specialized facilities for both fine arts and athletics, including a new fieldhouse. To enhance the daily experience for students and the public, the design also integrated improved support areas, secure entrances, and a community coffee shop.
A primary challenge of the project involved managing additions and renovations throughout the building and campus while school remained in session. This included the demolition and replacement of significant portions of the original building, necessitating multiple phases of sequential construction. To facilitate this, the new fieldhouse was constructed early in the schedule to serve as a temporary home for classrooms while the new classrooms were being built. This creative use of space allowed the design team, construction manager, and district staff to maintain a safe learning environment and operational continuity throughout the process.
By working together closely during planning and construction, the team successfully navigated the complexities of the site to minimize disruptions to the academic year. The result is a transformative, comprehensive upgrade that modernizes the flagship campus and provides the necessary infrastructure to accommodate the district’s rapid growth.
