Northwest Allen County Schools’ existing transportation facility was no longer meeting the community’s growing needs. Early this year, we were hired to create a new transportation facility that exceeds the status quo of a place to maintain and store school buses. NACS had a strong desire for the new facility to house the district’s growing staff of dispatchers, routers, maintenance staff, bus drivers, and other personnel. With the school corporation’s large-scale operations, the facility’s flexibility is paramount to NACS’ success.
Perhaps the jewel in the facility’s crown is the Training/Multi-purpose room at NACS’ new facility due its standout flexibility. The space is designed to provide more comprehensive training than a traditional classroom-like setting alone. A large garage-style door is provides access for a bus to be pulled into the space allowing for hands-on training while maintaining the technological access of a more traditional training environment. The space can also be sectioned off with a movable partition, allowing two distinct trainings to be held at the same time.
Throughout the rest of the facility, pairing a high quality-of-life and functionality for those working in the spaces each day, was a top priority in the facility’s design.
