Wabash Middle School received two key additions: a secure interior connector linking the building to Wabash High School, and a new upper-deck activity and bleacher area for the middle school gym, with locker rooms below. These improvements support daily travel between the schools and expand athletic functionality.
The project required careful coordination because the high school had three levels at the connection point while the middle school had only one, and none of the floors aligned. The steeply sloped topography between the buildings added further complexity.
Using 3D laser scanning at each connection point and across the site, the design team captured precise existing conditions to plan transitions, utility relocations, and access to nearby doors and service areas. The resulting connector and gym addition enhance circulation and bring a refreshed appearance to the middle school’s front and side facades.
