What was once a small neighborhood elementary school has been reimagined as a district-wide early childhood center designed specifically for Pre-K learners. The project doubled the amount of classroom space, introduced dedicated art and music rooms, and even transformed an upstairs storage loft into a bright, multi-purpose activity space where young students can explore larger movement activities year-round.

The need for Pre-K space in Wabash was growing rapidly, making speed a key factor from the start. With a compact site and an aging building, the design called for both expansion and extensive renovation inside and out. To meet these challenges, our team used a steel framing and insulated wall system that accelerated construction while maintaining quality and durability. Strategic phasing allowed new classrooms to open quickly, while existing spaces were refreshed over the summer with minimal disruption.

The final design balances efficiency with warmth—creating a welcoming environment where the district’s youngest learners can begin their educational journey. Thoughtful site planning, including a shared parking arrangement with a nearby church, further demonstrates the collaborative spirit that shaped the project and ensures the center is well-integrated into its community.
