Roanoke Elementary was designed as a new K–5 building that would replace the district’s existing elementary school while offering students a modern, connected place to learn. At 87,721 sq. ft., the school features a two-story academic wing highlighted by a decorative façade that recalls the charm of historic school architecture. Inside, three sections of each grade level are clustered together, with nearby special needs suites, resource rooms, and restrooms to support accessibility and inclusion. Key shared spaces include a centrally located media center, a gymnasium with stage, and a large group instruction room for flexible use.

The design was shaped by the site itself. Built on open land adjacent to the existing school, construction was carefully phased so the old building could remain operational until the new one was ready. Once students transitioned, the original facility was demolished and the final site improvements were completed.

At the core of the design is a ring-shaped corridor that links classrooms, shared spaces, and support areas in an efficient loop. This compact organization—combined with the two-story academic wing—keeps the school walkable, minimizes travel time, and creates a layout that supports both student learning and staff collaboration.
