Concord MOVE UP Virtual Academy

Concord Community Schools transformed an underused area on campus into a dedicated home for its new digital learning program. The renovated space was designed to support a range of instructional needs, incorporating flexible large-group areas, a café, and multiple small-group rooms. Some of these small-group spaces open directly to the main instructional area to create seamless teaching opportunities, while others can be closed off with glass walls to accommodate collaboration, focused work, or quiet individual study.

A key challenge for the district was providing additional alternative education space that could be better secured and supervised than the program’s former location within the high school. The new environment needed to deliver both safety and autonomy while supporting a modern, nontraditional learning model.

The completed project created a school-within-a-school for Concord’s alternative education and distance learning students. Located on the lower level of the Intermediate School and adjacent to the high school campus, the new MOVE UP Academy features its own dedicated entrance and drop-off area, providing independence while remaining connected to the broader campus. The result is a tailored, supportive environment for students who thrive outside of a traditional classroom setting.
