This project transformed a former car dealership into a dual-purpose 23,000-square-foot facility, blending 10,300 square feet of new construction with 12,700 square feet of comprehensive renovations. The building serves as the district’s primary transportation hub, featuring four large-vehicle service bays and an automated indoor bus wash. Strategically, the facility also houses the district’s central server room and technology operations staff. To ensure uninterrupted service for both fleet maintenance and district-wide digital infrastructure, the entire facility is backed by emergency generator power and features a secure, enclosed bus parking area.

The primary challenge was to significantly expand transportation capabilities while simultaneously relocating the district’s technology hub from the high school to a more secure, central location off-campus. This required a complex phasing strategy; the design team needed to modernize the existing dealership structure while ensuring that transportation services could remain operational throughout the construction process.

The resulting design utilized a phased approach: the four new service bays, wash bay, and parts storage were built as a new addition first, allowing the district to transition their maintenance work into the new space while the original building underwent a complete interior and exterior renovation. In addition to the specialized mechanical and tech areas, the building includes a large, versatile training space. This room serves as a professional development hub for bus drivers, technology staff, and other district personnel, effectively turning a former retail space into a vital, multi-functional asset for East Noble School Corporation.
